The Dumbwaiter took a day trip to West Sussex last Saturday to have lunch at Tom Sellers’ pub in the country, The Lickfold Inn. After a pint of local ale in the garden, it was upstairs to the dining room for lunch. Warm sourdough and some Story-esque snacks kicked off the meal before a main of Spring lamb with English peas and brown butter.
Judging by the number of press releases, it seems like it’s all about brunch these days. The Dumbwaiter ventured to Sexy Fish in Berkeley Square last Sunday to check out their new brunch menu. After a spicy bloody Mary it was onto some tempura, sashimi and tuna tartar before tucking into a Thai lobster omelette while the DJ hit the decks.
Rosewood hotels have taken over the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris, which reopens after a four year refurbishment in July. The hotel will have four restaurants that are all over seen by chef Christopher Hache. On Tuesday evening, The Dumbwaiter was hosted by the Hôtel de Crillon at the Rosewood London for an intimate dinner where he sampled ‘The notorious Champignon de Paris’.
To Duke’s hotel in St James’s to check out their new restaurant, GBR. Nigel Mendham has transformed the menu, to reflect the new informal interiors and vibe, and serves modern British food. The Dumbwaiter tucked into a scotch egg and prawn cocktail before a main course of chicken pot pie.
The week was nicely rounded off with a gluttonous celebration of Nebraska beef at Zelman Meats. Chunky tenderloin tartare, prepped tableside, was the prelude to enormous plates of striploin, chuck cuts, and low, slow and smoky short rib melting off the bone. The Dumbwaiter wasn’t the only one eating a month’s worth of meat in one sitting. A veritable feast.
