The Dumbwaiter's Best Bites of the Week

Easter Saturday lunch saw The Dumbwaiter head west to Notting Hill for lunch at Core by Clare Smyth. The former Leith’s space was buzzing and after a glass of Champagne and snacks, The Dumbwaiter tucked into a dish of langoustine with veal sweetbreads and a glass of white Burgundy.

 

 

 

 

Arepa & Co

 

Corn was on the menu at the newest outpost of Arepa and Co. Gus and Kathe Salguero have brought their lively Venezualan flavour to Paradise Row with fun cocktails and punchy flavours. Lazy Susan particularly enjoyed the Cachapa Trufa; a sweet corn pancake with truffle cream cheese, spinach and fried yucca.

 

 

 

Titu

 

Shepherd Market has been slowly improving on the food front with places such as Kitty Fisher’s. However, the cute pocket of Mayfair could still welcome more places like Titu. New Zealand chef Jeff Tyler has opened  the 15-seat gyoza bar and is a great affordable Japanese restaurant.

 

 

 

 

Indian Accent

 

The Dumbwaiter had never been to Chor Bizarre on Albemarle Street, where Indian Accent now sits. The restaurant from New Delhi, with an outpost in New York, has a shiny new outpost in Mayfair split over two floors with chef Manish Mehrotra’s progressive Indian food.

 

 

 

Xi’an Impression

 

Hitting up Xi’an Impression on a match day is perhaps not one of The Dumbwaiter’s greatest ideas but as the stadium filled, the restaurant emptied out and he settled in for a feast of hand-pulled biangbiang noodles, pork dumplings with wonderfully vinegary Xi’an dipping sauce and Chinese greens. After ordering seconds of most things, The Dumbwaiter dutifully rolled home before the victorious Arsenal fans reappeared.

 

 

 

Quatieri Pizza

 

After watching the Ugly Delicious episode on pizza, Lazy Susan was keen to try the folding techniques and popped into NW London neighbourhood joint Quartieri for a classic Margherita. It's been open for a year and still turning out ace Neapolitan style pizzas with just the right amount of chew on the crust and a sploshy fior di latte and tomato centre.
