To Fulham on Monday for a special evening of grouse on the Glorious Twelfth at the Harwood Arms. Head chef Sally Abe had invited Calum Franklin from Holborn Dining Rooms into her kitchen which saw guests enjoy scotch eggs followed by grouse - which only arrived at 6pm due to bad weather - that was served with a wild mushroom and truffle pie.
In Japanese cuisine, 'Robatayaki' or 'Robata' is a method of cooking by which food is cooked over charcoal and varying speeds. The as-named restaurant on Old Compton Street serves a menu of small and large plates, bao buns, skewers & sushi, and does not disappoint. The Beef Tataki should not be missed, along with the miso-glazed corn and chilli pepper squid. The Dumbwaiter would recommend starting the meal with a Roku Gin and elderflower-based Natsu cocktail.
The famous Knightsbridge department store has recently relaunched its Dining Hall and The Dumbwaiter visited it for dinner this week. The Grade II listed space on the ground floor now has a selection of offerings ranging from pasta to sushi. However, it was the lobster cheese toastie that stole show.
One of the Dumbwaiter's favourite meals is a steak with fries, spinach and a hearty red wine. CUT by Wolfgang Puck ticked all those boxes for dinner this week. Dinner involved a USDA 35 day aged Porterhouse that was perfectly paired by the sommelier with a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Dumbwaiter returned to his old stomping ground for dinner on Thursday night at Farzi Cafe on Haymarket. The Indian restaurant that has been popular with the critics was heaving. After some snacks including some fiery tiger prawns and brilliantly delicious butter chicken bao, it was onto mains of a goat biryani and a chicken tikka masala.
