Vining Street Wine Club, General Manager

The venue

A new wine bar and bottle shop in Brixton, situated just off the buzzy Coldharbour Lane and minutes from Brixton Market, serving quality drinks with a focus on low-intervention wines from small producers, plus a simple food menu based around cheese and charcuterie.

The job

As General Manager, you will be in charge of day-to-day operations, including:

Serving wine and preparing a simple food menu, working alongside 1-2 staff.
Writing rotas and managing junior staff.
Opening the shop, getting set up for service, and then cleaning down at the end of shift.
Tidying and optimising the space, plus managing stock and liaising with suppliers.
Maximising profitability by minimising wastage and smart upselling.
Managing the diary and driving private event bookings, including ticket sales for events.
Helping to run weekly wine tastings.
Further down the line: assisting with all aspects of the business from wholesale to wine fairs.
Working pattern of 45 hours per week spread across Tues-Sun, with the potential for a Friday and Saturday off each month.

There will be an initial month where you will work alongside the Owner and Head of Wine to get you up to speed with the bar and its systems, after which you will take on the responsibilities outlined above, becoming an independent co-lead in the business who can work without hourly oversight.

The person

A passionate worker with a ruthless commitment to quality.

Motivated by making the bar as good as it can possibly be.
Creative in coming up with new ideas, constantly looking to innovate and improve.
A cool head who thrives under pressure and doesn’t lose composure in tricky moments.
Being responsible for establishing and maintaining a professional yet relaxed atmosphere in which customers have fun and feel engaged with.
A leader who isn’t afraid to delegate and motivates staff through positive reinforcement, who knows when to be firm and when to be gentle, and builds an enthusiastic, committed team.
Wine knowledge desired but not essential, however must be willing and determined to build this up from day one. Training will be provided. Hospitality experience required.

The perks

You will be immersed in the world of food and wine, garnering a solid knowledge of your products and the industry.
A competitive salary with take home of £40k+, including a share of tips split equally among staff based on hours worked.
20% staff discount
Regular invites to trade tastings and staff trips, some of which may be abroad.
Being part of a young, exciting startup business – sky’s the limit!
