The Canton Arms is one of the top 50 Gastropubs in the UK with a long standing reputation for it’s daily changing, seasonal and sharing based menus.



Job description:


The Sous Chef will be working closely with the Head Chef, and will be responsible for services in their absence. Other responsibilities will include placing orders when required, and being available to help junior members of staff. The Sous Chef will also be expected to bring new ideas to the menus based on seasonal produce. 



The Ideal Candidate:


The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years cooking experience at a high level, preferable with experience being in charge of services.


We have a small, closely knit team so candidates must be friendly and work well with others. We perform our own butchery and can provide teaching in this area although previous knowledge would be an advantage. There will be the opportunity to share ideas, write menus and to learn from other chefs.


Candidates must be strong in all areas of the kitchen and will be required to work on all sections including pastry. Rotas are written at least two weeks in advance and a typical week would consist of 48 hours based on 6 shifts a week. As well as a monthly salary, we offer full holiday pay benefits, a monthly tronc payment and we are closed between Christmas and New Year.
