Hotel Jungfrau Wengernalp – Head Chef – Live In – Summer & Winter Season

    EEC passport required!

We have a fabulous opportunity for a Rosette/Brasserie style Head Chef or experienced Sous Chef to join us for the Winter 2024/25 season working in our boutique hotel – the Hotel Jungfrau in Wengernalp in the Swiss Alps.

The hotel is owned and run with great warmth and hospitality by the von Almen family.  With only 24 rooms, our select number of guests enjoy a high level of service and comfort.  Originating from the 19th century, the hotel has been tastefully restored and modernised, and is now considered to be one of the most charming and well-regarded mountain hotels in the Alps.

Our food has a reputation for excellent contemporary cuisine as well as traditional dishes and international delicacies.   Lunch at Wengernalp is highly regarded in the region, and tables on our sunny terrace are exceedingly sort after.  For our guests, we serve a delicious five course set menu every evening, using only the very best fresh seasonal and locally sourced produce.

    A little about the role:

    ·       The Hotel Jungfrau is based 6,235 ft high up in the Alps, with stunning views of the famous Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau Mountains.  The hotel is reached via the local railway and is therefore relatively remote.

    ·       We serve breakfast and dinner to our house guests, as well as à la carte lunches in our Hotel Restaurant with adjoining panoramic terrace for many regular guests from the surrounding area.  Therefore you will be responsible for the entire kitchen operation.

    ·       Our food is high-end contemporary cuisine, using only the best quality ingredients.  Therefore Michelin restaurant, Rosette or high-end level brasserie experience is required.

    ·       You will manage a small team of 3/4 other Chefs.

    ·       You will live in our staff accommodation with your own well-appointed room and en-suite, (there are no extra accommodation or food costs), as it will not be possible to travel daily up to Wengernalp from the ski resort of Wengen.

    A little about you:

    ·       You are a skilled Head Chef or Sous Chef who has high volume, fast paced, brasserie style experience.

    ·       You are used to managing a large number of covers and get a real buzz from lunch services that role into dinner.

    ·       You share our passion for well sourced fresh ingredients, great food which is prepared and presented with style, and have the highest standards of customer service and hospitality.

    ·       You have creativity and a passion for European and worldwide cuisine and are able to inspire our guests with the taste, flavour and fragrance of your dishes.

    ·       You are an outgoing, energetic individual, who loves the outdoors.  We are seeking someone who forages from the mountainside to supplement the larder!

    ·       Finally you will be someone who is active and enjoys all the outdoor pursuits that living in the Alps can provide.

Ideally the successful candidate will be able to visit the team this summer and work with them for a few days handover with the current Head Chef.

Salary:  CHF (Swiss Franc) 6,000 (Approximately £3,500 net pay a month after all local market deductions)
