August Employee of the Month

Published 19 August 2019

Kevin Coetzee, operations director at Humble Grape, is CODE’s August Employee of the Month. Kevin Coetzee is Operations Director at Humble Grape

An all-round awesome person who oozes hospitality, Kevin has overseen Humble Grape’s extraordinary growth with excitement and enthusiasm. He looks to motivate, educate & inspire, with the best organisational skills in the business, and never without a smile.

When did you realise you wanted to work in hospitality?

I realised that I wanted a career in hospitality when I stopped dreaming of becoming a fruit farmer in South Africa (now I drink those wonderful fruit thanks to Humble Grape) and was working in a restaurant when my brother suggested I study hospitality and make it my career, so I attended Granger Bay Hotel School and the rest is history!

What brought you to London?

I came to travel the world, enhance my career and leave a slightly uncertain South Africa at the time.

Why did you want to work for Humble Grape?

I wanted to join Humble Grape due to the vision that was shared by James Dawson (owner) and by the philosophy and ethos of the company, supporting small and wonderful wine producers!

What is your “go-to” grape?

CHAR – DO – Naay!

Who inspires you?

My Parents inspire me with their kind approach to people and humanity. Furthermore I am generally inspired by anyone who is prepared to stand up for positive change.

What is your desert island dish?

If it was my last meal on that island it would have to be a braai (bbq) followed by some malva (hard to describe) pudding. Visit Cape Town to experience both of these in abundance.

What is your favourite offer on the CODE app?

It has to be Humble Grape (of course) but if I had to head elsewhere it would be Hawksmoor…for the love of steak.

A big thank you to our friends at Ned’s Club Spa for providing Kevin’s prize of a Cowshed massage and day at the spa.
