CODE Careers Q&A: Marie Marchand

When did you realise you wanted to work in hospitality?

Until I started working in hospitality I had no idea that it would become my career! I’m happy though that this is where I’ve ended up.

Where and how did you get your start?

I started working with Greg in 2013 when opening our third restaurant in the Rue de Nil, Frenchie to Go.

Sum up your current work life in one sentence.

Chef’s back up, in all directions

Who has been really influential on your career and why?

All the people with passion who dared to do what they really love, whatever the risks!

What’s next for you?

Pretty much the same as what I’ve been doing, but different. That’s all I can say!

What’s your one piece of advice to someone starting out?

If you don’t try, you won’t get to where you want to be.

Where did you last have a great meal?

At home – sometimes the most simple food is the best.

Are there any openings you are looking forward to?

All of them! We’re so lucky to have so many new restaurants opening all the time.

Where is the most exciting city for hospitality (after London)?

Definitely Paris! There’s so many different places to eat

Who would you identify as a rising star?

I wouldn’t want to name just one.
