Every neighbourhood spot aspires to be warm, unpretentious and of the highest quality but few hit the mark so well as the team at Peckham Cellars. Helen Hall, Luke West-Whylie and Ben McVeigh are three locals with a wealth of knowledge and a knack for bringing you into the fold, no matter how much or how little you know about wine.
The frequently changing list by the glass and carafe is an appealing launchpad into the selection of more than 150 wines, many of which are offbeat, lesser-known varietals. There’s a mix of natural and traditional styles but all producers are small-scale and take care in looking after their soil. It’s an ethos which extends into the kitchen where you’ll find well-sourced produce at its peak, translated into a short but sweet menu of small plates. If you stop in on a Sunday, there’ll be a roast that’s hard to resist.
If you’re keen to keep exploring, the team run their own wine subscription service: Club Del Vino. It’s also worth keeping an eye on their social feed for news of tasting nights, wine dinners and one-off collaborations.
