The Spread Eagle is one of East London’s oldest pubs with the vibrant buzz you’d expect from a traditional boozer. The only difference is it’s London’s only 100% vegan pub, where everything from the food menu, the premium drinks list and the fixtures and fittings are all plant-based and sourced as sustainably as possible.

Previously the pub has played host to Meriel Armitage’s Club Mexicana vegan street food but now the kitchen is run by chef Gina Hopkins – a name CODE regulars might recognise from The Draper’s Arms, or more recently, Wright Brothers. Her cooking is an excellent reminder that eating vegan need not be abstemious – or even noticeable.
