The team behind Casa do Frango to launch Bar Bolivar in Canary Wharf

A CODE team (and app) favourite, we’re happy to hear the news that the team behind Casa do Frango are expanding this October. This time Jake Kasumov and Marco Mendes (co-founders of MJMK who also operate and manage the bars at Pop Brixton and Vinegar Yard) are swapping piri piri chicken for cocktails with the launch of Havana-inspired Bar Bolivar in Canary Wharf. For anyone who has found their way to The Green Room (the speakeasy cocktail bar upstairs at Casa Do Frango London Bridge) this can only be a good thing.

Inspired by 1950s Havana, Bar Bolivar will bring a Cuban style cocktail bar to the so-called ‘second city’. The cocktail list is distinctly Cuban, featuring cocktails such as a Havana Old Fashion and a Bolivar Mojito.

Food will be supplied by Venezuelan street-food specialists Pabellon. If you’re yet to try their food, expect snacks such as plantain chips with chipotle and grilled cheese and slow cooked beef brisket, as well as its popular sandwiches including the Cuban made with honey-toasted ham, Emmental cheese and roasted shredded pork.

Co-founder Jake Kasumov grew up in Cuba, with the duo saying the bar aims to “transport our guests into a little corner of Havana. A place where we can forget the reality of London, and experience the feeling of being on holiday – with a mojito or two in hand.” Well, we could all use a holiday at the moment…
