CHEZ ROSE

Spencer Metzger, executive chef at Row on 5, is opening a French bistro in Mayfair on 1 June in partnership with Jason and Irha Atherton. Chez Rose will take over the former Little Social site on Pollen Street. Spencer, who helped steer Row on 5 to its second Michelin star earlier this year, won’t be recreating a vintage French bistro; his menu will focus on seasonal ingredients and French-inspired dishes, informed by his classical training and experience at The Ritz. Chez Rose takes its name from Metzger’s grandmother.

KELLER

This June, Dan Smith of The Fordwich Arms and sommelier Elliott Ashton-Konig, will team up to launch Keller, a new wine bar and restaurant, in Whitstable, Kent. Ollie Clifford-Cox, ex Hide and Fox, will head up the kitchen. Expect oysters and local produce simply done.

NOBU WOOLFOX

London, Chicago, Miami, Rutland… You read that right. Nobu Hotels is opening its first countryside hotel, restaurant, and residences near Stamford. Nobu Woolfox, launch date tbc, will be positioned as a membership club and wellness retreat under an hour from London.

• Argentine-inspired TANO Gelato is setting up shop at Tom’s Pasta Deli in Hackney Downs from now until September. The dulce de leche is the one.

• Jody Williams has confirmed the opening date of Buvette, her gastrotheque in Covent Garden: mark 4 June in your diaries for croques, crémant, and more.

• The Beckford Group’s “British brasserie with bedrooms and a bottle shop”, Corsham House, opens in Corsham, Wiltshire, on 16 July. Chef James Harris’s menu will be a celebration of the West Country’s larder.

• India’s largest sweet and snack brand Haldiram’s (est.1937) makes its London debut with a restaurant and retail space opening on Leicester Square next month.

• Carl Clarke, founder of cult London fried chicken brand, Chicken Shop, has stepped away from the business following Kitchen Ventures’ majority acquisition.

• Toast is hosting an industry party to celebrate the launch of its new handheld, Toast Go® 3, at Le Bab in Covent Garden on 18 May, from 6pm-9pm – and you’re invited. There will be food, drinks, and merch.

• The Waterhouse Project in East London will close its doors after five years when its lease is up at the end of June.

Two grand dames of the food world had dinner together at Veeraswamy last week – Delia Smith and Prue Leith. Quite the power table – and a tribute to the venerable restaurant as it marks its 100th anniversary.

Also on an upscale Indian tip this week were Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce who ate at Gymkhana in Mayfair.

Are Jeremy King and Hugh Bonneville the bromance we never knew we wanted? Their video on Instagram last week has left The Dumbwaiter wanting more.

Quentin Tarantino is in London, working on his new play by all accounts. He was spotted on Friday at Brat in Shoreditch.

While Chiltern Firehouse is still closed and under scaffolding, their new neighbours The Hart are giving them a good run for their money when it comes to celeb-spotting. Poppy Delevingne hosted her 40th birthday there last week and it was a paparazzo’s dream.
