Freight Island Newcastle is partnering with Cal and Siân Byerley of Restaurant Pine to launch PYR, a new live-fire restaurant opening at the 60,000 sq ft rooftop venue in Newcastle this summer. Freight Island Newcastle launches in June 2026 with a line-up of 12 independent kitchens and four bars under one retractable roof. PYR follows on 6 August, bringing Restaurant Pine’s Michelin-starred and Green Star-winning ethos into a louder, fast-paced urban setting, with a focus on open-fire cooking and communal dining. The menu will feature snacks from £5, small plates from £10 and larger cuts cooked over coals from £30. Cal and Siân Byerley said: “Everything we do there will revolve around fire. It’s fast-moving, open, and built around the very best produce the North East has to offer. This isn’t a scaled-down version of Pine; it’s something entirely new, and something we’ve wanted to create for a long time.”

George Pell and the team behind The Suffolk in Aldeburgh will open The White Horse in Easton this Wednesday, 27 May. Expect a proper country pub – all wooden beams, Sunday roasts, and board games – only with fine wines and garlic snails from The Suffolk.
Ten years on from launching Chuku’s as a pop-up, siblings Ifeyinwa and Emeka Frederick have unveiled a new quick service Nigerian concept: Chuku’s Chop Stop, at BOXHALL Liverpool Street until 3 August. Head over for jollof rice bowls and sticky zobo wings.
Coming soon to Soho: Saltwater, a new takeaway sushi concept from the founders of Milk Beach. Inspired by the sushi shops of Sydney and Los Angeles, Saltwater will offer restaurant-quality handrolls, nigiri, and donburi, ordered at the counter, not a pre-packaged tray in sight.
