Loyal Tavern’s Tom Cenci returns to Stoney Street by Night

It was sad news when the Loyal Tavern closed, so it’s great to hear that its chef, Tom Cenci, is making a swift return to the kitchen at Stoney Street’s new wine bar. Cenci begins his three-month residency at Stoney Street by Night on October 8, as chef Alex Hely-Hutchinson opens her kitchen to support those who have been affected by the pandemic.

His new menu at the Borough Market site will feature British produce with a few quirky US ingredients as he has done before, and a focus on using ingredients to the full. Available Wednesday to Saturday, guests can expect small bites including cornmeal pancake with butter, charred corn and spring onion, followed by larger plates such as the chef’s take on a cheeseburger…

Commenting on the food, Cenci says “I wanted to do Alex justice by following her ethos of using sustainable ingredients so the menu will be focused around beautiful grass-fed beef that has so much depth of flavour, I have also created dishes that will utilise surplus produce that is typically wasted”

“Tom is such an inventive chef so I’m thrilled to be able to welcome to him to Stoney Street by Night” adds Hely-Hutchinson. “Tom brings with him years of experience and it was so saddening to see that recent venture unable to reopen after the forced lockdown. It was with that in mind that I wanted to start this series of residencies as a way to support chefs in our industry and I can’t think of a better person to kick things off.”

We look forward to visiting and seeing who is next…
