Despite having to close his central London restaurants earlier in the year due to the COVID pandemic, Mark Hix is making a comeback in his home county of Dorset. After opening The Oyster & Fish house in July, the chef and restaurateur has taken over The Fox Inn in the hamlet of Corscombe.

The Fox Room and Bill’s Garden Room, named after Hix’s late grandfather, will have 35-covers. The restaurant menu will be focused on meat and game sourced from the surrounding area. Hix commented, “The owners of the pub have been family friends for many years. It will be my first pub so it’s an exciting new project for me in the countryside where I’ll be serving local meat and game along with some British pub classics, a contrast to the fish and seafood offering in Lyme.”

After a small refurbishment next spring, The Fox will also have two double bedrooms designed by Mark himself. The pandemic has been a catalyst for a number of operators, such as Mark Hix, to focus their attentions outside of London. It will be interesting to see if the trend continues in 2021. The Fox Inn opens on 10 December.
