Mary-Ellen McTague has joined Northern Roots, a 160-acre urban farm and eco-park on a former landfill site in Oldham, as its new chef partner ahead of its launch as a visitor destination in autumn 2026. McTague, co-founder of EatWellMCR and a longtime advocate for sustainable food systems, will lead the café and catering operation, overseeing menu development and supporting recruitment. She says: “Northern Roots represents something incredibly exciting. There are very few places in the UK attempting to bring together urban farming, nature recovery, community wellbeing and food production at this scale.” McTague continues in her role as chef consultant at Pip at Treehouse Hotel Manchester.

London is to get a first look at Le Café LPM, the new Riviera-inspired café concept by La Petite Maison, when it debuts at The Lanesborough this September. The concept will be in residence at the hotel for one year before opening permanently in Dubai.

Liverpool hospitality group, Roadtrip Hospitality, opens its fifth location this week: a standalone site for its NY-style pizza brand, Goldies. It takes over the old Brewdog site on Liverpool’s Colquitt Street. Next up, a second site for PINS Social Club, in Manchester, in early 2027.
Bill Poon, the chef and restaurateur whose restaurant Poon’s of Covent Garden was one of the first Chinese restaurants in the UK to win a Michelin star, has died aged 81. Our thoughts are with his friends and family. His daughter Amy continues his legacy at Poon’s at Somerset House.
