CODE HR Bulletin – April 2023

This year, we’re really excited to have launched “CODE for Business”, meaning teams can now get CODE app as a staff benefit and save some money together whilst getting out and about experiencing the industry. For myself, this also means I’ve started to gain a small insight into a completely new world of working in hospitality HR which is great fun. We’re lucky at CODE to get a lens across the industry through our members and partners and so I thought it might be helpful to share updates and signpost resources. Hopefully this can become a more comprehensive bulletin if people feel it’s useful!

Thanks, Maitland

CODE HR Survey

Over the past few months, we surveyed our current CODE for Business partners and our wider HR network to find out what you’d like to see more of from us. You asked for more budget friendly offers, specifically under £10; chef’s equipment; mental health and wellbeing; as well as signposting HR resources, visa support and careers. I know often these surveys can feel like no outcomes have been taken as a result, so below is some of what we’ve been working on.

Don’t have CODE for Business?

Visa Support

  • Visa Support was a big theme of our survey, so I’ve asked Chris Harber, Head of Immigration at Boyes Turner for an update:
  • 1. The Home Office have very recently announced that a number of requests submitted on the Sponsor Management System will be now automated, which is good news for Sponsor Licence holders.
  • 2. Despite these reforms, it still takes the Home Office a number of weeks to approve in-year Certificate of Sponsorship allocation increase requests – get them in as early as possible!
  • 2. The general salary threshold for sponsoring workers under the Skilled Worker route is increasing from £25,600 to £26,200 on 12 April. This only applies to new applications, so you don’t need to give an uplift to existing sponsored workers!

Salary Insights

Particularly with the minimum wage changes that kicked in on April 1st, salary insights was another theme that came out of our survey responses. The HR in Hospitality network are fantastic and ran a very comprehensive salary & benefits survey last year, with over 50 hospitality companies involved, aiming to document changing trends within hospitality salaries and data-points at each level of the industry. You can only access the data if you take part in the survey yourself, and you can pre-register below if you’d like to be involved this year.

Expanding CODE Budget Friendly Options

This year, broadening our range of more affordable eats is a big priority for our partners team and also the most popular survey response which aligns well! To highlight some of our recent offers that have been brought into our “Under £10” section:

Other Side Fried (30% off food, everyday)

CODE Careers

Although CODE for Business is more about retention, on the recruitment side we’ve opened up our online careers board so all our CODE for Business partners now have access to unlimited online job postings, for free. If you get in touch we’ll send you a code to bypass the charge, and you can post jobs by following the below link.

Happiness in Hospitality 2023

Each year, we run an industry report based on survey data from our members, all about why people work in hospitality, a snapshot of industry views and commentary from leading voices. Our last report is here if you haven’t seen it. This year, we really want the report to be a practical toolkit as well as share insights, anecdotes, advice and solutions from HR professionals in the industry. If you’d like to help shape the report, please get in touch!
