Charity cookbook Community Comfort available to order

Published 6 July 2020

We’ve seen numerous examples of how the hospitality industry has come together to help others during the past few months, and digital cookbook Community Comfort is yet further evidence of this. Spearheaded by cookbook author and activist Riaz Phillips, 100 chefs and food writers have come together to create the cookbook to raise funds for those affected by COVID-19.

Hoping to raise both awareness and funds for the Majonzi COVID-19 Bereavement Fund in collaboration with the Ubele Initiative, the cookbook will raise funds for the families of COVID-19 victims in Black and Ethic minority communities.

Readers can expect recipes from hospitality figures including James Cochran, Ravneet Gill, Benjamina Ebuihi and Romy Gill, as well as from rising stars such as Yvonne Maxwell and LUTO’s Mary San Pablo. The cookbook will feature everything from plantain with pistachio to comforting desserts such as Benjamina’s chocolate fudge cake.

“In this time of disarray, and when we can’t break bread with our loved ones, I wanted to do something which brought joy to as many people as possible” says Phillips. He adds ” Food and recipes are how we connect, heal and mourn but also celebrate when things get better too. For people in our communities and migrant backgrounds, food is our colour when our voices don’t always get heard, so I gathered all these recipes in hope that they might speak to you and bring you some comfort whilst contributing something back to a community that has so been affected, proportionately more so, in the UK.”

Community Comfort is available to pre-order for a minimum donation of £10. To pre-order the cookbook, or for more information, please click here
