As we get ready to launch CODE’s 30 under 30 class of 2022/23, the author and chef Ravneet Gill discusses her inclusion in 2020’s list.
What did the 30 under 30 class of 2020 feature mean to you?
It felt like a really brilliant acknowledgement in the industry, which I was really grateful for. It helped me meet other people who were also on the list.
How has your career changed/developed since your inclusion in the list?
Countertalk is over four years old, which feels exciting and wild as it was very much a small idea initially. I never imagined it would blossom in the way that it has, with loads of resources, new features, and a great team. I’ve also released two pastry books and continue to work on different projects in and out of the kitchen.
How do you see the future of the industry for 2023 and beyond?
Slightly unpredictable. I think a lot more places will be faced with tough decisions about whether it’s viable for them to stay open. Staffing is at the top of most people’s minds – I’m hoping that we will see better initiatives to get people into hospitality and an emphasis on the fact that really good working environments do exist.
There are a lot of new and exciting concepts coming to fruition or starting out in the supper club/pop-up/delivery space. I think the food scene will continue to change and that’s something to look forward to.
What advice would you give to CODE’s 30 under 30 class of 2022/23?
Say yes to everything – push, push, push.
