Clapham’s The Dairy and Counter Culture to close

Published 20 August 2020

We’re very sad to hear the news that much-loved Clapham restaurant The Dairy – and neighbouring bar Counter Culture – will not be reopening post lockdown.

Owners Sarah and Robin Gill announced the news in a video yesterday, stating “it’s with a very heavy heart that today we announced the closure of The Dairy and Counter Culture.” Admitting it is one of the toughest decisions of their lives, they stated they had taken a real hit over the recent months as “the pandemic has hit us harder than we ever imagined it would”

Despite the sad news, he did suggest the potential for a future revival of The Dairy, saying “it’s not gone in my mind, it will never be gone – it’s only sleeping for now, we’ll be back.”

“The memories created there – the energy right from the get go – I want to just thank everybody that was involved, because everybody made that place so special” continued Robin.

The news was met with much sadness from Clapham locals and regulars who have visited the restaurant since 2013, with one tweet highlighting that “The Dairy and Counter Culture were a huge part of county Clapham.”

Gill’s other restaurants, including Darby’s, Sorella and Birch, have not been affected.
