EXCLUSIVE: Bancone is to open its next restaurant within The Imperial, an iconic brutalist hotel on Russell Square, which reopens after an extensive refurbishment in early August. Bancone’s 140-cover restaurant, bar and 60-cover terrace, will follow soon after. Bancone Bloomsbury marks the fresh pasta specialists’ sixth site, after Covent Garden, Golden Square, Borough Yards, Kensington and the City. Its signature silk handkerchiefs with walnut butter and confit egg yolk will be on the menu, alongside newer dishes such as Herdwick hogget pappardelle with soy, Thai basil and chilli. The hotel itself dates back to 1905 and is part of Imperial London Hotels, the family-run hospitality company established in 1837 and now managed by the seventh generation of the Walduck family. The original Edwardian building was replaced with a new modernist building in 1969–70. A London landmark.

Chef Sertaç Dirik (ex Mangal II) and restaurateur David Carter (OMA, Smokestak etc) are teaming up. Their Turkish restaurant KID will open on Frith Street in September. Expect sourdough pide with kaymak butter, braised goat kid, and içli köfte with ex-dairy beef.
COQODAQ, the New York restaurant known for lines around the block for its Korean fried chicken, is coming to London for a two-week pop-up. Get your caviar nugget fix at Lucky Cat Mayfair by Gordon Ramsay or grab a box to take away. From 29 June to 12 July.
New on Savile Row, Dorothy’s is an all-day caffè, bar and restaurant by Wendover (Foreign Exchange News, Sol’s etc). That it’s part-inspired by Alfred Loos’ American Bar in Vienna and the tableware is custom Service Projects is surely any restaurant lover needs to know?

The Dumbwaiter has consulted Debrett’s and can confirm: ice cubes in wine are not the done thing. In light of the current heat wave, however, he’s turning a blind eye to the giant rosé wine ice cubes at Half Cut Market in North London. They’re quite fun (and only £2.50 a glass).
Critics swapped pens for pans at Dante Mayfair at Claridge’s last week for the annual Too Many Critics dinner, held in partnership with OpenTable. Tom Parker Bowles, David Ellis and CODE’s own Adam Hyman were at the pass, helping to raise £130,367 for Action Against Hunger.
Back to Dante Mayfair at Claridge’s – the Dumbwaiter has nothing if not good taste – this time for a special lunch to celebrate Paula Fitzherbert’s 30th work anniversary at Maybourne hotels. To drink? Champagne, darling.
