Here’s to starting 2026 with some good news: CODE can exclusively reveal that Buvette, chef Jody Williams’ cult New York ‘gastrothèque’ is coming to London. It will open this spring in the Neal’s Yard site previously occupied by St. JOHN bakery. The 80-cover spot will open all day, serving everything from morning coffee to lunch and post-theatre cocktails. The menu has yet to be announced but a look at the New York menu reveals the likes of pain perdu, lobster pot pie, brandade de morue, and artichauts à la barigoule. Williams, a self-taught, James Beard Award-winning chef founded the original Buvette in New York in 2011 and has since taken the brand overseas to Paris, Tokyo, and Seoul. Together with her wife and fellow chef Rita Sodi, she also owns Via Carota, I Sodi, The Commerce Inn, and Bar Pisellino, all in New York’s West Village.

The Shepherd Mayfair, a new 82-key hotel off Park Lane, is to open in 2026 with three F&B concepts: Fayre, a 75-cover modern brasserie; subterranean cocktail bar Teddy’s; and café and terrace, The Lounge. Launch date tbc.
Masaki Sugisaki’s collab with Em the Nutritionist sounds just the thing this January. Featuring super collagen broth miso soup and superfood chirashi, it’s £35 for three courses, available lunchtimes at Dinings SW3 from 7-31 January.
The new Dr. Martens flagship, now open on Brewer Street in Soho, isn’t just good for a new pair of shoes. Visit in-store café Doctor’s Orders for Dusty Knuckle toasties, Luminary Bakery cakes, coffee from Old Spike and Nemi Teas.

How was your New Year? Spare a thought for Ombra in Hackney which was going to close for New Year’s Eve but forgot to turn off bookings. At least all those tortellini they had to make should, according to Italian tradition, bring them good luck for the year ahead.
Chefs Marcus Wareing, Angela Hartnett and Neil Borthwick all attended Gordon Ramsay’s daughter’s wedding over the festive period. No pressure for the wedding caterers whatsoever.
January sales? The very idea elicits a distinctly Gallic shrug from chef Yannick Alléno at Pavyllon London on Park Lane, where they’re debuting a lavish Michelin star breakfast tasting menu at £70 a head this weekend. The five-course menu includes French toast, a special, and an ‘amuse-juice’ with optional extras including a £20 drinks pairing and £5/g caviar on your Eggs Royale. Happy New Year!
