Skye Gyngell wins AYALA SquareMeal Female Chef of the Year

Published 23 October 2019

Now in its second year, the AYALA SquareMeal Female Chef of the Year Award celebrates the achievements of female chefs within the UK and honours their contribution to the hospitality industry. Following in the footsteps of the 2018 winner Angela Hartnett, this year Skye Gyngell of Spring won the award.

SquareMeal editor Ben McCormack noted that “she is much more than a chef by leading the way on environmental issues such as eliminating single-use plastics, reducing food waste and committing to sustainable farming methods.” Skye consistently devises innovative solutions to these problems, for example Spring’s early-evening Scratch menu serves up three courses of food that would otherwise go to waste for £20.

Gyngell was presented with her award at a champagne reception that took place at The Goring in Belgravia. On receiving the award, Gyngell stated she was honoured and thrilled, noting that “there are so many wonderful, creative and talented women working in our industry and it’s just so wonderful to be even included among them.”
