The calls for curfew-reform get louder

An eye-catching graphic which originated from NRBManchester yesterday speaks for many: #Cancel the curfew: stop blaming hospitality, it states. It’s an idea that is picking up support and a letter with more than 100 signatures was delivered to the Prime Minister yesterday with a similar sentiment. Could this be the start of a coordinated call for changes that becomes too loud to ignore?

Names attached to the letter include the leaders of Greene King, Young’s, Pizza Express, JD Wetherspoons and similar operators. That may represent a particular aspect of the hospitality industry, but in financial and employee number terms they are some of the biggest hitters. They’ve been brought together by UK Hospitality, the British Beer & Pub Association and the British Institute of Innkeeping – drinks-led sites are some of the hardest hit by the new restrictions.

In a separate but equally powerful letter, 25 MPs from six different parties have called on the government to rethink the curfew, calling it a “completely arbitrary measure”.
