Meriel Armitage is one of those chefs who turned her back on the corporate life and found fun in food, which is palpable in her restaurant Club Mexicana. Seven years in Melbourne with an exciting, innovative vegan scene was eye opening, so when Armitage returned to the UK she took matters into her own hands to raise the plant-based bar. Her street food stalls and pop ups were an instant hit, then it was onto the Spread Eagle – the 100% vegan pub in Homerton – before arriving at the bright lights of Kingly Court.

This is isn’t about self-denial, there’s verve in all the flavours and textures. On the drinks menu we love the frozen margaritas but there’s a nice selection of natural wines too.
