The Dumbwaiter's Best Bites of the Week

Salon

It was back to Brixton for The Dumbwaiter again this week, but this time to Salon for the brilliant value set menu. This was not, however, an over-elaborate and exhausting 'tasting menu', but rather a simple list of unfussy food that looked beautiful and tasted ace.  The Brixham cod and the desert of strawberries, milk ice cream and honeycomb were standout, but a special mention must go to the homemade sourdough and focaccia that were wolfed down in seconds.

Cooking the Books at Sauce by The Langham

Such a smart idea for The Langham to create a cookery school, called Sauce, within the hotel – fun for guests and Londoners alike. The Dumbwaiter’s Friend took a class in Roux classics and felt rather proud of the three courses she made from scratch under the tutelage of executive chef Chris King – scallops and truffle, pigeon with peas and a banana soufflé – but isn’t about to give up the day job.

ROKA

It’s a favourite of The Dumbwaiter, and to celebrate its 15th anniversary this year, ROKA Charlotte Street pulled out all the stops for a special dinner with Lazy Susan and friends before she gets married on Saturday. The sashimi platter with a bottle of their limited edition sake made for an ideal Tuesday dinner at the Captain’s Table.

Sub Cult

The boys over at Sub Cult have opened their first permanent site in the City and they were busy slinging subs in the sunshine this week. The Dumbwaiter enjoying his Club Sub and will definitely be back for more.

Yauatcha

The Dumbwaiter, unsure where to head for dinner, turned to the CODE app for inspiration. Taking advantage of the fantastic industry offer the Dumbwaiter enjoyed working his way through the signature menu at Yauatcha Soho. Highlights included the selection of dim sum (as intricately delicious as ever) and crispy aromatic duck, shredded at the table, to form the basis of some next level duck pancakes.
