We are a bistro in Shoreditch from Sommelier Ed Thaw. Head Chef Simon Shand continues the Leroy ethos of simplicity and flavour, food that is thoughtful but not showy. Our wine list celebrates the breadth of all that is exciting about wine today from the iconic and classic to the more unusual. This year we were shortlisted for Best Medium Wine List in the UK by Star Wine List.
Role Overview –
As our Sommelier/Assistant Restaurant Manager, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our guests’ dining experience. You will bring your expertise in wine to the forefront, guiding guests through our wine list. Additionally, you will assist in managing daily restaurant operations, ensuring smooth service and maintaining our high standards of quality and hospitality. This is the perfect opportunity for someone with a strong background in wine that wants to further their knowledge and skill set.
Responsibilities Include –
- Monthly stock takes
- Acting as sommelier during services, providing guests with recommendations and supporting the floor team where necessary
- Managing a dynamic by the glass selection, working with a list of 400+ bins, from over 30 different importers
- Leading services as well as taking the lead on wine briefings & training
- Assist in training and mentoring FOH staff on product knowledge and wine service
- Assisting the restaurant manager with the day to day operations of the restaurant, opening & closing of the restaurant
- Fostering a positive work environment built on mutual respect and teamwork
Requirements –
- Proven experience as a Sommelier or similar role in a quality restaurant or wine bar
- Good knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and production methods
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as great organizational abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
- Previous experience in restaurant management or supervisory role is a plus
