The Dumbwaiter’s best bites of the week: 20 May 2019

Published 20 May 2019

Senor Ceviche

Needing a gluten free friendly lunch in Fitzrovia, the Dumbwaiter popped to Señor Ceviche on Charlotte Street. Sat by the open sided front it was the perfect spot to watch the world go by whilst making the most of the sunshine. Skate wing in a Peruvian red pepper (ají panca) and yogurt marinade was a highlight and there was (naturally) plenty of ceviche to go around.

Mark’s Club

Chef Elizabeth Haigh cooked a special dinner at Mark’s Club on Tuesday evening for members’ of the private club and their guests. After a glass of Ruinart, The Dumbwaiter enjoyed a meal that included tomatoes with steamed silken tofu, tomato dashi and crispy seawood and roasted cabbage with nashi pear, sesame and black garlic. But it was the barbecue sirloin that the Dumbwaiter most enjoyed.

Smoking Goat

The Dumbwaiter and a few other members of the CODE team started their week at The Smoking Goat for the return of their Offal Monday Series. Though at first glance the menu seemed somewhat daunting, with ingredients like braised pig skin, tripe and mackerel face, the Lamb Sweetbread Prik Laap with Chili Piquin was delicious, while the fiercely spicy Duck Heart Taco left a few eyes watering and some swift calls for more water. The cocktail menu was eclectic and unusual: the ‘Celestial Blues’ with mezcal, lychee and egg white was a winner.

On the Bab Paris

The Dumbwaiter popped over to Paris for the night to celebrate the opening of On the Bab in the French capital. Parisians can enjoy fried chicken from the Korean street food restaurant run by Linda Lee.

Hotel de Crillon, a Rosewood Hotel

Before jumping back on the Eurostar to head to the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards, The Dumbwaiter enjoyed an early breakfast the hotel de Crîllon. Their pain perdu – French toast – is reason alone to travel to Paris.
